COMMERCIAL LITIGATION

Mr. Dowd has prosecuted and defended claims in a wide variety of procedural contexts such as applications for temporary restraining orders, preliminary and permanent injunctions and constructive trusts, actions in lieu of prerogative writs, declaratory judgment, specific performance and derivative suits.  He has obtained several substantial settlements, verdicts and judgments in the construction, employment, shareholder rights and environmental areas.

CONSTRUCTION LAW

Robert Dowd’s experience in the area of construction law, on behalf of owners, contractors, subcontractors and public entities on public and private projects, includes trials, arbitrations, mediations, appeals, bid challenges and substantial bond and lien prosecutions and defenses, as well as counseling private and public entities on a wide variety of construction matters, including contracts and disputes.  In recent years, Mr. Dowd represented the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority in connection with litigation involving a multi-million dollar series of claims filed by over one dozen subcontractors on the Xanadu and New Meadowlands Stadium leasehold interests.

Mr. Dowd has also authored a guide on New Jersey public and private lien and bond practice, written several articles on various construction law topics and has been a featured speaker at numerous construction law seminars. He is a member of the Construction and Public Contract Section of the New Jersey Bar Association and the Construction Law Committee of the Bergen County Bar Association.

EMPLOYMENT LAW

Robert Dowd’s experience in the area of employment law, both on behalf of the employer and the employee, includes litigating wrongful discharge, discrimination, sexual and other forms of harassment, retaliation and class action wage and hour claims under state and federal law, negotiating separation and severance agreements, preparing employment handbooks and counseling individuals and businesses on a wide variety of employment matters and disputes.

Mr. Dowd has been a speaker at employment law seminars and published articles in the area, including for the New Jersey Law Journal. He has participated as a “Master of the Bench” in the New Jersey Sidney Reitman Employment Law Inn of Court. Bob is a member of the Labor and Employment Section of the New Jersey Bar Association.
